Q. What age should I bring my puppy to be groomed for the first time?

A. GoldWalk Dog Grooming Welwyn Garden City recommends that your puppy should begin their introduction to grooming as soon as their vaccinations are completed at around 10-12 weeks of age. A fantastic service for them is our “Puppy University Course”. Please see our services tab for more information.

Q. My dog is very nervous, can i stay with him to be groomed?

A. Owners are welcome to stay for their dog’s groom however we strongly discourage it. Whilst owners are present, the dog actually picks up on their anxiety, they do not settle and are MORE distressed with owners present as the dog wants to get back to it’s owner. Working alone with your dog they settle and relax so much faster and begin to bond with me and trust that I am not a threat. Not only this, but a full groom may not be possible if your dog is too distressed with you present. It is our guarantee that we will contact you immediately should there be an issue.

Q. I’m not sure what style my dog should have, can you advise me?

A. Yes – of course! On arrival to your appointment, Amy will have a short consultation with you and ask what style you would like. If you are unsure we can go through some options with you and the recommended grooming schedule of each to see which better suits your dog, your lifestyle and your budget.

Q. Do you put my dog in a cage whilst in your care?

A. Absolutely not!! All dogs have free roam of our salon. We know not all dogs are crate trained and would not want to stress your pooch by doing so.

Q. Do you offer a collection & delivery service?

A. Yes we do, but please book in advance for this service.

Q. Do you offer a mobile service?

A. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer this service.

Q. Can you express my dog’s anal glands?

A. Yes we can. However we will only do it if your dog NEEDS them doing. Contrary to common belief, this is not a “normal” part of the grooming process. Most dog’s self express with no need for intervention, if you interfere with this, you can actually cause more issues for your dog. We will assess the requirement with you on consultation.

Q. How long does it take to groom my dog?

A. The time it takes to groom your dog varies depending on the breed. A rough guide would be:

Yorkshire Terrier – 1- 1.5 hours

Cockapoo  – 1.5-2 hours

Alaskan malamute de shed – 1.5 – 2 hours

Labradoodle  – 2 hours

Newfoundland – 2 – 4 hours +

Q. What are your prices?

A. Again, this varies upon the dog as an individual. We charge by a number of factors such as breed, size, time taken to groom, behaviour & coat condition. Here are some average full groom prices at GoldWalk Grooming (please note some grooms are less/more so please contact us for an accurate quote):
